Product & Engineering Lead

Remote · US / Canada

Help advance AI with human judgment.

Apply for the role

More capable AI could expand what humanity can achieve. Getting there requires ways to check that these systems are reliable and aligned with human intent. Sapien puts human judgment where it can have the greatest impact on that development.

Today, we start with data quality. Our Proof of Quality system, or PoQ, helps AI teams scale expert review. Customers define the criteria. Human experts apply them to real examples. AI judges compete to match those judgments, then review at volume while experts resolve uncertainty and keep checking performance.

PoQ is already running in customer pilots. We are looking for a technical product leader to turn that working system into a product customers adopt, pay for and return to.

The opportunity

You will own product direction and engineering, working directly with the founders and customers. The central challenge is finding repeatable product market fit: choosing the right problems, proving value in pilots and turning that evidence into a focused product.

Our longer term ambition is to extend the approach to AI outputs, decisions and behavior. You will help shape that direction while keeping today's priorities grounded in customer needs.

What you will own

Product and customers

Choose the customers and use cases we should focus on. Lead discovery, shape pilots and define the evidence that tells us whether to continue, change or stop. Make PoQ's value easy to understand and translate adoption into revenue.

Technical direction and delivery

Make the consequential architecture decisions and ship production code alongside the team. Stay close to validation and consensus systems, agent execution, security, model economics and reliability. Use AI development tools where they improve the work. Keep technical ambition proportionate to the problem we need to solve.

The team

Lead the product and engineering function. An Engineering Manager already runs daily management and delivery. Coach that leader, clarify ownership and build a team that makes sound decisions without depending on you for every answer.

Focus

PoQ comes first. Vault, our validator collateral system, advances where it strengthens PoQ. Our document collaboration product, artc, remains a smaller bet whose external development must earn its place through customer demand. You will decide what deserves attention and what should wait.

What you bring

You may have been a founder, technical product leader or senior product and engineering leader. We care most about evidence that you can:

  • Take a technical B2B product from an early hypothesis to paying customers.
  • Work directly with customers and make difficult product and commercial choices.
  • Go deep in AI, data systems, agents or developer infrastructure, and still enjoy writing code.
  • Challenge architecture decisions, understand production risk and raise engineering quality.
  • Develop engineering managers and senior engineers.
  • Make decisions and deliver when the market, requirements and resources are still changing.

Experience with validator incentives or market design is useful. Strong product judgment and technical depth matter more.

How we work

We move with urgency, give direct feedback and expect leaders to contribute early. Some important missions require concentrated periods of exceptional effort. You should be comfortable making decisions with incomplete information, then changing course when the evidence changes. This role will not suit someone looking only to set technical strategy or manage a settled roadmap.

What success looks like

From your first week, contribute to product decisions and delivery. Earn the team's trust through action, work directly with customers and ship useful improvements.

Within 30 days, own a focused roadmap and be driving a fast, consistent cycle of customer feedback, product iteration and engineering delivery.

By 90 days, have delivered measurable improvements in shipping speed, product quality and customer traction, with clear evidence of what shipped, how customers use it and the commercial value it creates.
