Ground truth

The reference answer used to train or evaluate a system for a particular task.

A reference can come from direct measurement or from a documented expert review process. The name does not make it infallible. Subjective tasks need explicit criteria, suitable expertise and a way to handle disagreement. Changing the rubric can change the appropriate reference answer.

Experts review a clip against the customer's placement criteria to establish the reference task outcome.
